A guide to Webster's Lake Ontario access points
Webster has two public parks on Lake Ontario, plus nearby options for a lifeguarded beach and a boat launch. Here's what each spot offers, and where to call about camping or rental reservations.
Webster has two public parks on Lake Ontario, and they are built for different jobs. Monroe County's Webster Park, a 550-acre property on Holt Road, has a fishing pier, lake and creek access, camping, and rental lodges, but no designated swimming beach. The Town of Webster's Sandbar Park, on Lake Road, has a canoe and kayak launch, shoreline fishing, and a playground, but no swimming beach and no launch for trailered boats. Neither park is a beach in the usual sense, though both put visitors right at the water.
This guide covers what each park actually offers, where to launch a trailered boat if that is what you are after (not in Webster), and where to find the nearest lifeguarded place to swim (also not in Webster).
Webster Park, Monroe County
Webster Park is at 255 Holt Road and covers about 550 acres along Lake Ontario. It is open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. The park has a fishing pier, shoreline and creek access for fishing and small boats, hiking trails, picnic shelters, cabins and lodges available for rent, and a campground with its own reservation line. There is no designated swimming beach at Webster Park.
Day use and parking are free at Webster Park. Monroe County parks generally do not charge day-use fees. Camping and lodge or shelter rental rates are not posted online. Call 585-753-PARK (585-753-7275) for lodge and shelter rental pricing, or the campground line, 585-269-4544, for camping reservations.
Sandbar Park, Town of Webster
Sandbar Park is at 302 Lake Road and is open dawn to dusk. It has a canoe and kayak launch, shoreline fishing access, a playground, seasonal restrooms, and picnic space along the Lake Ontario and Irondequoit Bay waterfront. Like Webster Park, there is no designated swimming beach here, and the launch is built for hand-carried canoes and kayaks, not trailered boats.
Sandbar Park's current amenities, including the kayak launch, playground, and shoreline rebuild, came out of a 2022-2023 state and town flood-mitigation project. For more on Lake Ontario's water levels and the flood infrastructure behind that rebuild, see the Ledger's earlier piece, “The lake has peaked. Here is where Ontario stands, and what Webster built since the last time it got bad.”.
Sandbar Park has free admission and free parking, with no day-use fee. Call the town's parks line, 585-872-7103, for questions about shelter reservations or other park services.
If you're trailering a boat
Webster itself does not have a public trailered boat launch. The nearest one is Irondequoit Bay State Marine Park, at Route 590 and Culver Road in the Town of Irondequoit, a short drive from Webster Park. It is operated by New York State Parks, has a concrete ramp, and offers parking for 28 cars and trailers.
A few private marinas along the Webster and Irondequoit Bay shoreline, including Mayer's Marina on Lake Road in Webster, also advertise launch ramps. These are commercial operations, not public facilities, so access and fees vary by location. Call ahead before assuming you can launch there.
If you want to swim
The nearest designated, lifeguarded swimming beach is Ontario Beach Park, a Monroe County facility in Rochester's Charlotte neighborhood. The guarded swimming season for 2026 runs June 26 through Sept. 7, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Readers without a kayak of their own can rent one nearby at BayCreek Paddling Center, 1099 Empire Blvd. in Rochester, on the south end of Irondequoit Bay.
