The week ahead in Webster: school tax installment due Sept. 15, West Main Street closes Sept. 19

The first installment of the school tax bill is due Tuesday, Sept. 15. The Town Board meets Thursday, Sept. 17. West Main Street in the village closes between Route 250 and Corning Park for a car show and beer walk Saturday, Sept. 19. This edition covers the 12 days from Monday, Sept. 14 through Friday, Sept. 25.

The town Planning Board and the town Zoning Board of Appeals do not meet in that stretch. The Planning Board's next meeting is Tuesday, Oct. 6. The town Zoning Board's is Tuesday, Oct. 13.

Day by day

• Tuesday, Sept. 15. The first installment of the school tax bill is due to the Webster Receiver of Taxes. Details are in the next section. Community Office Hours with the town supervisor, the town engineer and the director of community development run from 6 to 7 p.m. The town's calendar lists that session as a virtual meeting on Microsoft Teams rather than an in-person one. The town's event page says to register by emailing communications@ci.webster.ny.us, and that the link to join will be emailed as the date approaches.
• Wednesday, Sept. 16. The Webster Central School District's Strategic Planning Committee meets at 1:30 p.m. at the Superintendent's Office, according to the agenda the district posted on BoardDocs.
• Thursday, Sept. 17. The Town Board holds a workshop at 6:30 p.m. and its regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. Both are in the Town Board Meeting Room at 1002 Ridge Road.
• Saturday, Sept. 19. The Webster Business Improvement District lists a Main Street Car Show & Beer Walk from 4 to 7 p.m. on West Main Street in the village. The BID says West Main Street will be closed from Route 250 to Corning Park for the event. The village's news page lists the event as Fall Kickoff in the Village. A flyer for the event in the village's Sept. 8 newsletter says West Main Street will close at 12:30 p.m. The BID sells Beer Walk tickets through Eventbrite at $25.30. That price includes the Eventbrite fee, according to the BID. The Webster Public Library lists a vintage book sale from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the library's Community Room at 980 Ridge Road. The town supervisor's Aug. 5 column lists the Webster Mud Run that day. Local news site websterontheweb.com reported Aug. 30 that the run is at the Webster Recreation Center, and Aug. 23 that the run is from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
• Tuesday, Sept. 22. The Webster Central School District Board of Education holds a workshop at 5 p.m. in the second-floor Professional Development Center at the District Office, 119 South Ave. The district's approved board calendar lists the topic as Elementary Specials.

School taxes: first installment due Tuesday, Sept. 15, and what Sept. 20 changes

The town's school tax page says the first installment is due "without interest on September 15th." The payment instructions the town posts from the back of the school tax bill add 1% to a first installment paid Sept. 16 through Sept. 20. The town's 2026-2027 legal notice says that if the first installment is not paid by Sept. 20, the installment plan is no longer available. The school tax page adds that the full tax amount must then be paid. The legal notice and the payment instructions both say a service charge applies to each installment payment. Neither states the amount. The same notice says the installment option is not available to residents of Walworth and Ontario.

Sept. 20 is a Sunday. The same legal notice says that when a due date falls on a weekend or holiday, payment will be accepted on the first business day following. The notice puts no interest on a full payment from Sept. 1 through Oct. 1 and a 2% interest penalty from Oct. 2 through Oct. 31. It says the Webster Receiver of Taxes will receive no payments after Oct. 31, when the school tax rolls are returned to the Monroe County and Wayne County tax offices.

Payments go to the Receiver of Taxes at Webster Town Hall, 1000 Ridge Road. The drop box in the front vestibule is open at all hours. A mailed payment is timed by its postmark. The Receiver of Taxes takes questions at 585-872-7060.

Village meetings

The Village of Webster's meetings page carries standing schedules for three village bodies, and all three land inside this window.

• Village Historic Preservation Commission. Third Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m., at the Webster Museum, 18 Lapham Park. That is Sept. 15.
• Village Zoning Board of Appeals. Third Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m., at the Village of Webster Community Meeting Hall, 29 South Ave. That is Sept. 17.
• Village Board of Trustees. Second and fourth Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m., at the same hall. That is Sept. 24.

Programs listed by the Webster Public Library, 980 Ridge Road, include jazz with Max Robbins and Wade McClung at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16. A Rochester Genealogical Society presenter teaches a genealogy class from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17. The Great Webster Baking Contest is at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, and registered contestants get the challenge Sept. 18. The budget steps

The posted Sept. 17 Town Board agenda includes a resolution to set the public hearing on the 2027 Preliminary Budget for Oct. 15, a step the town's published 2027 Budget Schedule also puts at the Sept. 17 meeting. Two later rows of the schedule put the hearing at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, and adoption of the 2027 Final Budget at the same meeting.
