The week ahead in Webster: Town Board Oct. 1, no school in WCSD Oct. 9

Update (Sept. 26, 2026): The Town Board's 6:30 p.m. workshop on Thursday, Oct. 1, is canceled, according to the town's Agenda Center. The board's 7:30 p.m. meeting that night is still scheduled. The Village Board announced at its Sept. 24 meeting that it will hold a workshop Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 6:30 p.m.

The Town Board meets that night. The Planning Board meets Tuesday, Oct. 6. The Village Board meets Thursday, Oct. 8. The school district lists Friday, Oct. 9, as a no-school day. The town's Zoning Board of Appeals calendar listed no meetings from Sept. 28 through Oct. 9 when the Ledger checked Sept. 22.

  • Wednesday, Sept. 30. Community Office Hours with the town supervisor run from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Liberty Lodge in Finn Park, 850 Maple Drive. The town's event page says there will not be a formal presentation.
  • Thursday, Oct. 1. A Webster Central School District tax bill paid in full to the town's receiver of taxes is interest-free through Oct. 1, under the tax collection notice. The Town Board holds a workshop at 6:30 p.m. and its meeting at 7:30 p.m. Both are in the Town Board Meeting Room at 1002 Ridge Road.
  • Saturday, Oct. 3. The Webster Museum holds a 250th celebration from 1 to 4 p.m. at 18 Lapham Park. The museum's flyer lists pioneer games, butter making, apple tasting, penny candy and reenactors. The village's Sept. 8 newsletter lists the event as Celebrate America's 250th and says admission is free.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 6. The Planning Board meets at 7 p.m. in the Town Board Meeting Room at 1002 Ridge Road, according to the town's event page.
  • Thursday, Oct. 8. The Village Board meets at 6:30 p.m. in the Village of Webster Community Meeting Hall, 29 South Ave. The village's meetings page sets Village Board meetings on the second and fourth Thursday of every month. The village's public calendar listed the Oct. 8 meeting when the Ledger checked Sept. 22. The meetings page says all board meetings are streamed live on the village's Facebook page.
  • Friday, Oct. 9. No school in the Webster Central School District for prekindergarten through 12th grade. The district's calendar lists the day as a Superintendent's Conference Day.

School tax: full payment through Oct. 1

The town's school tax collection notice says no interest is due from Sept. 1 through Oct. 1 if the total is paid in full. For a full payment made from Oct. 2 through Oct. 31, a 2% interest penalty is added to the entire amount of the bill.

The notice says taxes are received at Webster Town Hall, 1000 Ridge Road. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. A drop box in the Town Hall's front vestibule is open 24/7. For mailed payments, the notice says the postmark date decides whether a payment is on time.

The 2027 budget

The town's Detailed Budget page listed a 2027 preliminary budget when the Ledger checked Sept. 22. The town's published 2027 Budget Schedule sets Thursday, Oct. 1, for posting the budget to the town website, with highlights in the Webster Today.

On the roads

A Sept. 16 town notice says part of Schlegel Road would close starting Sept. 21 for a Monroe County culvert replacement. The culvert crosses a Fourmile Creek tributary about a quarter mile west of Basket Road. The notice says local traffic will be maintained to driveways and to Pipeline Way, up to the culvert. Through traffic follows a posted detour via Salt Road, Woodard Road and Basket Road, the notice says. It says the project is expected to be finished in November, barring any unforeseen delays.

Programs listed by the Webster Public Library, 980 Ridge Road, include the ones below. The library requires registration unless a listing says otherwise.

  • Monday, Sept. 28, 6 to 7:30 p.m. Cook the Book Club, the library's first cookbook club meeting, in the Community Room. The library says the first meeting focuses on family recipes. Five seats were open on Sept. 22.
  • Tuesday, Sept. 29, 3:30 p.m. Rock & Roll from the Beginning, a talk and performance in the Community Room about learning to play rock and roll in an era with no formal instruction.
  • Thursday, Oct. 1, 6 to 8 p.m. Organizing, Preserving & Managing Your Research, the third course in the library's genealogy series, in the Community Room. The library says the earlier courses are not required. Registration is per class.
  • Friday, Oct. 2, 1 to 2:30 p.m. Stroke Prevention: Be Fast, in the Community Room. The presentation is from Lifespan, in collaboration with the University of Rochester Medical Center Neurosurgery Comprehensive Stroke Center.
  • Saturday, Oct. 3, 1 p.m. An acoustic blues guitar concert in the Community Room, with original songs and covers.
  • Monday, Oct. 5, 6:30 p.m. Extraordinary Women of the American Revolution, a talk in the Community Room by a Nazareth University professor.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 6, 11 a.m. Diverse Abilities Dialogues: Dyslexia, on dyslexia resources in the Rochester area, in the Community Room. The library lists Autism Up and the Parents Helping Parents Coalition of Monroe County as collaborators. The library says the event will stream on YouTube Live.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1 p.m. A Halloween movie matinee of "The Witches of Eastwick" (1987), rated R, in the Community Room. No registration is required.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 6, 6:30 p.m. Rochester's Olmsted Parks, an online talk on Zoom from Cornell University Cooperative Extension. The Zoom link comes with registration.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 7, 6:30 p.m. The monthly Evening Book Discussion, on "No Shred of Evidence" by Charles Todd, in the Large Study Room (Blue). The library says no registration is necessary.
  • Friday, Oct. 9, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Drop-In Lego Fun in the Storytime Room, for all ages. No registration is required.
  • Friday, Oct. 9, 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. A Red Cross blood drive in the Community Room. The library's listing asks donors to register through the American Red Cross website.
