The Town of Webster Highway Department collects leaves every fall, and residents don't have to bag them. The town's leaf pickup page says residents "can place their leaf piles at the end of their lawn."

No start date for this fall's collection was posted on the town's leaf page, Highway Updates page or News Flash list when the Ledger checked them Monday, Oct. 5. The leaf page says, "We will announce each time a new run will begin."

Where to put your leaves

The town's leaf collection FAQ says, "Please place leaves at the end of your lawn, not in roadways or gutters." Gutters have to stay clear so water drains off the roads, the FAQ says.

The FAQ also says placing leaves anywhere on the road surface "is illegal and creates a hazardous situation."

Keep twigs, branches and other debris out of the piles. The FAQ says the town's leaf collection vehicles "are only equipped to collect leaves."

How the zones work

The town's posted zone map shows five leaf pickup zones.

Each pass starts in Zone 1, the Bay Road area on the west side of town. Crews then work east to the County Line Road area, the FAQ says. When a pass is completed, crews loop back to Zone 1 to begin the next one, and the town makes multiple passes through the fall.

The FAQ points residents to the zone map "to get an idea of when their street falls on our pass schedule." The town says it can't give daily street updates or make a special trip between runs.

How long a full run takes depends on leaf volume and weather, according to the leaf page.

How to hear when a run starts

The town says it announces runs in these places:

  • Highway Updates: the department's updates page on the town website.
  • Notify Me: the town's Notify Me page offers a Highway list for "current projects, upcoming roadwork, leaf pickup, and snow alerts."
  • Social media: the town's own accounts.

After the final pass

The FAQ says the town will announce the date for the final town-wide pass. It also says, "After the final pass is completed, any remaining leaves will need to be bagged for your trash hauler."

Village of Webster residents

The Village of Webster runs its own leaf pickup through its Public Works Department. The village's Public Works page says the services on it are for village residents. Residents can check whether they live in the village on the village map.

Village leaf pickup begins when leaves start to accumulate on the ground and runs until the beginning of December or the first heavy snowfall, whichever comes first, according to the page. Village crews "will traverse each Village street once a week to remove leaves from the curb."

The village's leaf guidelines, as posted:

  • "Do not bag your leaves for Village curbside pickup"
  • "Do not place brush, rocks, pumpkins, wood, plastic, or other foreign material with your leaves"
  • "Do not place leaves in roadway, or on top of drainage structures, concrete, in gutters, or drainage ditches"

The village also picks up brush, typically during the first full week of the month, with one pass down village streets. Its 2026 schedule includes brush weeks starting Nov. 2 and Dec. 7. Brush has to be at the curb no later than the Sunday night before the pickup week, which is Nov. 1 and Dec. 6 for those two weeks.

Brush should be 1 to 6 inches in diameter and at least 4 feet long, according to the page, which lists other brush rules. The village says it cannot pick up brush left by a contractor's tree trimming or removal.
